This Belfast Powerpop band were formed in the west of the city in 1980. They featured Brian Bradley (AKA Bradzo) - vocals, guitar, Martin 'Bap' Kennedy - rhythm and lead guitar, Colm 'Spade' McQuade - bass, vocals, Brezzie - synths and keyboards and John Cullen (ex Ex-Producers) on drums. John was quickly replaced by Declan Carville. Bap had previously played in Belfast Punk band Sellout when he was only 16 years old!

Early Belfast gigs included the A Centre, the Attic bar in Lavery’s. 1983 was a big year for the band. They featured on national TV on Channel 4’s The TUBE alongside fellow West Belfast band The Bankrobbers. They also had a Mudd Wallace (R.I.P.) produced single released on the Good Vibrations Record label, to coincide with the TV appearance. However the band fizzled out a year or so later.

Bap Kennedy moved to London in 1987 and formed the band Energy for whom he was the rhythm guitarist, lead singer and primary songwriter. Although the band was based in London, all of its members had originally come from Belfast. The band signed a major record deal with MCA Records in 1988 and they would go on to release two albums with the label, before signing with Transatlantic and released a further two studio albums as well as a live album. The band split in 1996.

Bap Kennedy went on to become an internationally acclaimed singer/songwriter. He was highly regarded and worked closely with Mark Knopfler, Van Morrison and Steve Earle.

Martin Christopher “Bap” Kennedy passed away on 1st November 2016 from pancreatic and bowel cancer aged 54.
