ACID PLUS

Acid Plus were a four piece, formed in Larne in early 1978. They described themselves as a punk band and they made headlines in the Larne Times on 7th April 1978 when band member Eric Thompson reported receiving an electric shock as the band were rehearsing. Eric reported that his guitar was ‘live’ and after his electric shock, he had to attend Moyle Hospital for treatment. However, it didn’t stop the band performing at the Town Hall on 4th April at a gig organised by Larne Branch of Liverpool Football Club Supporters. The band were (from left to right above) Alan Cooke (Guitar & Vocals), John Scullion (Bass) David Thompson (drums) and Eric Thompson (Guitar & Vocals).

Acid Plus rehearsed in an attic in Edenvale Terrace on a floor festooned with fag ends. Live they covered ‘Do Anything You Wanna Do’ by Eddie & The Hot Rods and even a cover of The Beatles ‘I Saw Her Standing There’. They even sighted Status Quo as an influence! Apparently drummer Dave did a “Sash my father wore” solo intro before the group got into Quo’s Caroline!
