The Gentz were an early 80’s band from Lisburn. They were fronted by duo Noel Rafferty on vocals/guitar, ably assisted by Tom Harper, who collaborated on songwriting. The pair enlisted the aid of Rod McVey to create an early 80’s sound on their 1983 cover of the 1950’s classic ‘Stand By Me’, complete with drum machine and synthesisers. The flip side is an original composition, penned by Noel Rafferty, Paul Kenny and Lorry Sport. The lyrics attempt to give a feeling of the before and after effects of a nuclear holocaust. You can listen to the track below.
The Gentz later went on to form a two-piece covers lounge band called G&T.
