Portrush band Self Destruct formed in September 1982. The original line up being: Mark Linton vocals, Parkey guitar, Paul drums and Norma Daly bass. Paul was quickly replaced however by Norma’s bother Alan. The band made their live debut two months after forming at the Peter Thompson Hall in Castlerock, sharing the bill with Girls Love Popstars.

Norma was eventually replaced by Blair Cameron on bass and later still Parkey was replaced by Bunt who had played with The Ficks and Decontrol. The band gigged regularly around the triangle area, playing venues such as Spuds in Portstewart.

Original compositions included ‘Futility’, ‘Vultures’, ‘Punkettes’, ‘Gladiators’, ‘The Light Grows Dimmer’, ‘Abortion Tree’ and ‘Narrow Mind’ to name just a few. There were also a sprinkling of covers such as Suzy Is A Head Banger and Tube Disaster in their live set. The band folded in the mid eighties. Some tapes of practice sessions and live gigs exist.

On 29th March 2022 Spit Records released Shellshock Rockers Vol. 3, a compilation CD of previously unreleased tracks, all salvaged from old cassette tapes. This included a Self Destruct track, 'Front Page News', which you can listen to below.
