The Suss were formed in 1980 by Simon Thomson after Wardance imploded and included Richard Pierce on drums, Keith Keenan on bass and Sam Coleman on vocals (their initial vocalist, Ronan Kelly, was sacked for the heinous crime of going to Greece for a holiday!). Underpinned by Pierce’s powerful drumming, they had a strong Joy Division flavour (this was quite acceptable at the time) and regular gigs in clubs such as the Orpheus, Winkers and Jules rendered them a competent live act.

They were less successful in the studio, however, and before they could produce a demo that did them justice the world had, probably not unreasonably, decided that one Joy Division was enough. Only Thomson persisted in the music business and gave it his best shot yet when joined by Paddy Fitzsimmons to form the contemporary sounding (well for the 80’s anyway) funksters Rhythm Method
