The Unknown Creed were from Carrickfergus and formed in late 1982 early 1983. The band were Billy Murphy vocals, Adam Murphy guitar, Sam Murphy bass guitar and Eddie Magill AKA Dorf on drums. The band took their name from an anti sectarian stance which was pretty rare at that time. Their live set comprised mostly of original material with songs such as Everything’s Gone Now, Tell Me Why, The Darkest Hour, Fragments and Cut & Thrust. They also included covers such as the Dead Kennedys Holiday in Cambodia and UK79 by Crisis.

The band played gigs around Belfast and Spuds in Portstewart. They also arranged punk nights in Carrickfergus where a local publican put a bar on and Snat the Alternative DJ played punk and indie records. The Unknown Creed also played a live set too. The band recorded a few demos with Keith Sherry at Red Hall a stately home in Ballycarry but they eventually split in 1986. Billy Murphy “Yes, we sold all our gear after the band split and used the money to go to London to see the Damned”

On 29th March 2022 Spit Records released Shellshock Rockers Vol. 3, a compilation CD of previously unreleased tracks, all salvaged from old cassette tapes. This included The Unknown Creed track 'The Darkest Hour', which can be heard below.
