Wet Blanket were formed by four students from St.Malachy’s College, Belfast in the late 70’s. Aidan McCann, guitar, Patrick Fitzsimmons, vocals, Stephen McManus, bass and Barra McGrory drums. The band played all the usual punk haunts of the day, including The Harp Bar and The Pound. The band later added Neil Martin on keyboards. The band name is subtler than might appear at first glance and rather unpleasant a la Spandau Ballet. In July 1979 they recorded two tracks at Downtown Radio Studios. They subsequently took these demos around record companies in Belfast, Dublin and London, but returned home without a deal.
